Smudging Your Home

Smudging, often referred to as saging, is an age-old spiritual technique used to purify and clear a room. It includes burning sage, a plant belonging to the Salvia family, to produce its fragrant smoke, which is thought to have purifying benefits.

Saging can be a terrific way to clean the air and bring back a sense of calm and clarity if you're feeling stuck, stressed, or negative energy in your home. Here is a detailed instruction on how to sage your house:

  1. Gather your supplies To start, you'll need some white sage, a fireproof container, and a lighter or matches. You can find white sage bundles at many health food stores, metaphysical shops, and online retailers.

  2. Open your windows It's important to have good ventilation when you're saging your home. Open your windows to allow any negative energy to escape and fresh air to circulate.

  3. Light your sage bundle Hold your sage bundle at a 45-degree angle and light the end with your lighter or matches. Let it burn for a few seconds, then gently blow out the flame. The sage should continue to smolder and release smoke.

  4. Begin saging Start at the front door of your home and work your way clockwise around each room, making sure to move the sage in a sweeping motion to distribute the smoke evenly. Be sure to pay extra attention to corners, closets, and other areas where negative energy may be trapped.

  5. Focus on your intention As you move through your home, focus your mind on your intention for saging. This could be anything from releasing negative energy to inviting in positive energy and harmony.

  6. Extinguish the sage Once you've finished saging your home, gently tap the sage bundle into your fireproof container to extinguish the flame. You can also use sand or baking soda to make sure the embers are completely out.

  7. Cleanse yourself It's also a good idea to sage yourself after you've saged your home. Hold the sage bundle over a fireproof container and let the smoke waft over your body, starting at the top of your head and working your way down to your feet.

Saging your home can be a powerful way to create a peaceful and positive environment. Remember to set your intention, stay focused, and practice self-care as you cleanse and purify your space.
