  • Gather Your Ingredients:

    • Flour (all-purpose or whole wheat)
    • Water (preferably non-chlorinated)
    • Patience

    Create the Initial Mix:

    • Combine equal parts flour and water in a glass or plastic container.
    • Stir well until you get a thick, pancake batter-like consistency.

    Let It Rest:

    • Cover the container loosely with a lid or cloth.
    • Allow it to sit at room temperature for 24 hours.

    First Feeding:

    • Discard half of the starter.
    • Add equal parts flour and water, stirring well.
    • Let it rest for another 24 hours.

    Establish a Routine:

    • Continue discarding and feeding every 24 hours.
    • After a few days, you'll notice bubbles and a tangy aroma.

    It's Alive!:

    • Your starter is ready when it doubles in size within 4-6 hours of feeding.

    Maintain and Bake:

    • Once active, store it in the fridge and feed weekly.
    • Use it to bake delicious sourdough bread!
